CATRIONA BRODRIBB PRINTMAKING
Gallery 7: Alphabet book, or 'A Book of Curiosities'
These twenty six small etchings were created as part of a collaborative artists' book project with three other artists.
Each artist produced seventy eight images made from either print, drawing or collage-size 2.5" x 3.5" / 6.3 x 9 cm (American Trade Cards).
Three were printed from each of the twenty six etching plates, thus creating seventy eight pieces in total.
All three hundred and twelve pieces from all four partipants were shuffled together; each artist then received a pile of seventy eight random images comprising approximately twenty five per cent image mix from each artist.
We each invented both a name, and a definition for each image using the A-Z theme.
(Think of Lear, and Gorey in terms of heading down the bizarre or nonsense route.)
Each image received its typed title & description on the back; thus each artist named three books from the shuffled mix; we had a total of twelve books, each containing twenty six images made from the random mixes of print, collage and drawings.
Twelve beautiful structures with pockets were created, which contained the images as pull out cards.
All twelve books were exhibited and sold in the US through artists' book fairs and or sellers.
